4 tips to surviving turkey day

On the Eve of this Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a minute and remind you all that Family is important and what’s more important is knowing how to maneuver around them. Hence here are the “Modern n Distinguished 4 Thanksgiving Survival Tips”! Now before we dive in let's take a moment and remember that if it’s Friendsgiving” or a full Thanksgiving with the family Covid has made things different this year. So let’s get going with Tip 1

Tip 1 Have a Game plan – We’ve all been there where you know Aunt (Insert an endearing name.) let’s just call here Lilly makes the world’s greatest Mac and Cheese but, if you aren’t there when it comes out the oven you’re not going to get any… This is usually the result of your gluttonous siblings or cousins. Meanwhile, you’re stuck at your friend’s dad's house with the chicken, his current girlfriend made, that taste like cardboard and hot sauce. If you have multiple houses, you're visiting to combine the perfect holiday meal plan and coordinate so you don’t miss out.

Tip 2

Social distance from Toxic people –Remember some of the worse are those dearest to us, so be on your toes and recognize those known to stir up things that may rub you the wrong way. One of my closest friends once invited me to dinner at his mom’s house. His aunt was on a mission to be messy, started in on his sister and her love life. Unprovoked and uninvited she aired all of his sister's “dirty laundry” for all to hear. That was my cue, and it was time for me to exit stage left… so make sure you remain 6 feet from those type of people, sometimes it’s better to eat and run.

Tip 3

Cherish your Family time – Everyone has by now seen or knows of someone affected by the aftermath of Covid 19. Regardless if it's someone we've lost or someone who was sick but recovered, there, for many will be a vacant seat at the table this year. Sit back and watch the Macy's day parade, take pictures, play games, and enjoy helping in the kitchen (even if you can’t or don't cook) sit and talk and be sure to build those memories while we have the opportunity to do so.

Tip 4

Cybershop – I know we look forward to those door-busters and the chaos of racing to the markdowns but this year take advantage of the month-long Black Friday sales and Cyber Monday deals for all your gifts and purchases. I know it’s not the same but better to be cautious. Most of our favorite shops are doing online deals so make sure to take full advantage.

And there you have it! The climate is unique this year but it doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the holiday. Keep these tips in mind, stay safe out there, and do all you can to protect yourself and your family.

Happy Turkey Day MnD
