Everyday I'm Hustling

Too often, I encounter in conversation with someone who is somewhat mad at the fact that their "broke friend" who always somehow ends up having the best times or the ability to go on these crazy trips, that they’re not able to afford, but all their bills are paid. This is known as a "Hater" in some areas, but may I reintroduce you to "The Hustler". You see while Person A (who will be known as Jeff hereafter) may not have a lot, working a low level; barely able to keep the lights on, type of Job. Jeff has something his friends don’t and that is the art of the Hustle.

Let’s start first with the word itself, “Hustle.” Webster's dictionary defines it as “to obtain by energetic activity”, in other words, and for our context, it means to move with purpose and get what you need when you need it. People have been doing it for years, some would even say to become successful you have to hustle. Now that that’s been established let’s get back to Jeff. Take away all outside assistance and what are you left with? The bare minimum… just enough to titer the line of covering all the bills and getting food. It’s not a pretty picture, to say the least. Now insert the spirit and drive of the “hustle." Our buddy Jeff has not somehow covered all bills and was able to go to Miami Beach Memorial day weekend and never broke a sweat (that you saw).

So, let’s look at this again, what did Jeff do differently that allowed this to happen? Where you went to work and put your 40 hours in to have just enough to not eat roman noodles for the next two weeks? I have nothing against Roman Noodles they were AMAZING back in college, but I digress. Jeff did things you didn’t see to generate extra funds, this is the hustle, and there are thousands of legal things you can do as a hustle/side hustle if you want it bad enough. Most of the Biggest rappers ever all started by selling their mixtapes out of the trunk and growing a clientele or fan base for their music. One account of Tupac’s life stated that even after his career started he was still selling bootleg Tee-shirts. The rapper J Cole did the same thing, Hustling items out of a trunk.

Jeff spends hours finding money (not looking for quarters on the sidewalk but finding different streams of revenue). Warren Buffet is quoted by this statement. Jeff may write for blogs like this one your reading, drive for Uber, or tutor students in high school or college, and the list continues. The point is you must perfect the art of the hustle... never get comfortable. Shawn “Diddy” Combs has been a success for decades now. However, while he has obtained millions of dollars, he continues to develop different revenue streams i.e. Liquor sales, clothing, shoes, endorsements, and appearances.

The Bottom line is You shouldn’t be Broke Busted and Discussed if you plan and find your Hustle.

Until Next time,

MnD
