With the holidays around the corner, one gift idea I’ve seen for men floating around a little more is the “Man-bag” or “Murse” … a male handbag or man-purse. Now for me, the first thing I think of when hearing the name is emasculation however, after looking deeper into it I was surprised, Pleasantly Surprised.
As Modern individuals, we venture out and try different things…Food, Drinks, Looks, Accessories, you name it. But as of late next to the isles of Slim cut, extra skinny jeans, some men are trying the question was posed, “can a Man rock a Man Bag without looking…well feminine? The answer is Yes! However, it depends on the Bag you choose and the setting your rocking it in.
Myself, for example, I started rocking the Messenger bag. This works a lot for me for work, it's stylish and my laptop fits perfectly going to and from work.I can’t lie it took some getting used to but it has grown on me and now I find myself shopping for another one to better match what I am wearing to work.
Another type of Bag to try would be the Modern backpack. I know you're looking at me right now like “I’m Not in High School Anymore Sir” and your right, No I wouldn’t expect to see you rocking a Jan sport (still the best bag ever made I still have the one from 9th grade and it’s still going strong No Lie) but something a little more stylish and could easily double as a weekend back is a winner.
Now some men have gone into the murse area a lot deeper with the Satchel style bags and while it’s not my favorite I've seen it done masterfully. With a nice finish and style that would make it something to be desired, however, I’ve also seen it go wrong. It wouldn’t be my personal choice, but I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge its obvious style.
The “Man Bag” can be done with style and class but as a man, you should consider what your wearing and the statement you're making just as you would when choosing the right Tie or fragrance.
