Wait... let me take a Selfie

Recently I had the privilege of being featured on a Podcast, and one of the topics we covered was the online dating scene. A common hang-up, besides dodging catfish, is the fading art of the “selfie.” Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s become apparent that we need to talk about this. It’s not just selfies, however, let’s start with what your pictures are saying about you. I’ll use my experience and help you with my “Starting 5” pictures you need for your online profile. No matter if you are actively dating or just trying to show the internet you’ve still got it! So first and foremost let’s talk selfie… a selfie is a close-up of your face showing the world your personality and appeal on a singular basis. Most people look at it as you just hold up a smartphone and snap the picture but here are some things to consider.

  • Background – you want your background to generally complement your picture;

  • Setting – You want to be in a calmer setting when you snap your pic, this keeps the focus on you;

  • Lighting – if it is extremely dark or brilliant out and shadows can make or break a selfie.

For example

Though she looks attractive with a lovely smile, You Can't see her, it's dark.

This is a Better picture, you can see his face clearly, and he is the focus. Now let’s talk about the next 4 photos you need to stand out as someone interesting enough to gain the interest of others.

1.The Social shot – One or two of these photos are ideal however here is the kicker, while you are out in a social setting, take a picture of yourself around people. Not to be confused with an “Usie”.

2. The Hobby shot – This answers the question of what you do in your spare time. What your interests are and even what you like to do to have fun. This an easy one because if you're into rock climbing, a picture of you reaching the summit would be just the shot to say “Hey, not only am I into rock climbing, I’m also great at (fill in the blank)… Check me out!”

3. The Black Tie shot – the is as close to a glamor shot you should ever come; this should be a dressier/professional shot. Suit and tie style… in short look like you could attend a wedding and not look out of place. Gentlemen (specifically), I phrase it this way because women enjoy weddings; don’t believe me, ask them, because of this if she recognizes the fact that you clean up well that’s always a plus in your favor. Therefore communicate it to her from the door. For the rest of us… It’s a genuinely "good look" to include in any profile be It personal or professional.

4. The Girl/Guy Next door – this is your Saturday social look, I am not saying pajamas and tee-shirt but, be yourself as if you were meeting with friends. This shows you are a genuine person, you are naturally attractive, and you can just relax and even so have yourself together (or at least photo-ready). These are merely suggestions, I’m sure there are many others you all know. Be sure to comment below and let me know your favorites.
